This is my Substack section for religious-theological reflections. In order to subscribe to this section, you need to first be a free subscriber to Contra Mordor, and then follow the instructions here.
Most of the content at Contra Mordor will be on general political theory, history, sociology, etc. But at the end of the day, the classical Augustinian framework of metaphysics underlies so much of how I see the world. So while much of my bandwidth is spent on topics that has a more general audience, I often feel compelled to grapple with something more specific to my theological convictions. Yet, this is a niche audience and so I have carved out a section just for this content.
Those who know me know that I am a classically Reformed Augustinian Protestant who, the more I read and reflect, the more I despise the modernist evangelicalism of our present religious culture. I’ve also been in heavy religious development over the last few years, primarily as a result of an increasing historical awareness. Many are going through this!
I take my Augustinian metaphysical inclinations quite seriously and see the world and our knowledge of the world as flowing forth from our “metaphysical dream” of God and His Logos; which is God Himself. On this framework, like Augustine, I am unswervingly committed to credo ut intelligam; I believe, in order that I may understand. From the prior belief in God, I see and understand all those subsequent things that greatly interest me.
In any case, I am a Reformed Augustinian catholic, lover of historical theology, adherent to an Amillennial historical-eschatological framework.
